COLOMBO (News 1st) - In a gathering at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Anuradhapura District meeting today, MP S.M. Chandrasena said Parliament will be dissolved, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming Presidential election, on September 22 or 23.
"We are preparing to contest this election, and we are counting on your unwavering support," Chandrasena said.
When questioned about the comparative merits of SLPP versus Ranil, Chandrasena refrained from direct comparisons. Instead, he emphasized consulting district representatives who possess firsthand knowledge of local sentiments. "As representatives deeply connected with the people, we must heed their needs," he said.
Regarding the selection of a presidential candidate, Chandrasena clarified that SLPP has yet to finalize its decision but assured that ample time remains for deliberation.
Following a vote among meeting participants, Chandrasena underscored that he will communicate to the SLPP headquarters that the majority have endorsed President Ranil Wickremesinghe for President.
