Suspects in Shocking Assault On Child, Remanded

COLOMBO (News 1st); The five individuals implicated in the heinous attack on a four-and-a-half-year-old young girl, which gained widespread attention on social media, have been remanded until the 19th following their appearance before the Tourism Magistrate Court in Padaviya this afternoon.

Among those detained are the girl's mother, stepfather, two women, and another individual.

The primary suspect, Kukul Chaminda, along with the additional suspects, were apprehended early this morning in the Arisimale area of Pulmude, thanks to a collaborative effort involving Welioya Police, Mullaitivu's Criminal Investigation Division, and Pulmude Police Special Task Force.

During the court proceedings, it was ordered by the Magistrate that the girl's mother undergo a psychiatric evaluation for assessment and that the girl be placed under the care of Anuradhapura Probation Officers.

Disturbing footage related to the incident had begun to circulate on social media since yesterday afternoon, depicting the brutal assault on the four-and-a-half-year-old victim.
