X-Press Pearl compensation case: Deadline set to file objections

COLOMBO (News1st); Five weeks have been granted to submit objections in the case filed at the Singapore International Commercial Court to obtain compensation for the impact on Sri Lanka's environment, due to the X-Press Pearl disaster.

The decision was reached after considering a request made by the relevant shipping company through a motion.

The Attorney General's Department said time was granted until the 1st of July, to file objections.

Time was also granted to file objections against the motion filed by the Sri Lankan government at the High Court of Admiralty in London, to remove restrictions imposed to obtain compensation from the shipping company.

The Attorney General's Department said the shipping company was granted time until the 28th of June to file objections.
