Muthukumarana Replaces Uddika As MP

COLOMBO (News 1st); In a formal ceremony held at the parliamentary chambers, S. C. Muthukumarana took the oath of office and was officially sworn in as a Member of Parliament, in the presence of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

Muthukumarana's appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of Uddika Premaratne, the former Member of Parliament representing the Anuradhapura District. 

With Premaratne stepping down from his position, the parliamentary seat became vacant, prompting the appointment of Muthukumarana to fill the role.

Political Career of Muthukumarana:

Started politics in 1977;

1991 elected for the Kalawewa Pradeshiya Sabha; 

1993 elected to the North Central Provincial Council; Vice President - SLFP  Kalawewa Constituency Branch (Bala Mandalaya); again 1999 elected to the NCPC.

2000 Minister of Agriculture of the province; 

2010 elected to the Parliament from the Anuradhapura District.
