Health unions to launch island wide strike from 1st of February

COLOMBO (News 1st); 72 health unions have reached a decision to launch an island-wide strike from the 1st of February, demanding the Rs.35,000 allowance granted to doctors.

The decision was reached during a discussion held with representatives of the Health Trade Union Confederation on Thursday (18) afternoon.

Co-convener Chanaka Dharmawickrama said a decision was also reached to organize a series of protests across the island from the 23rd of January.

Many health professionals launched strike action under several phases for five days since the 9th of January, demanding the Rs.35,000 allowance granted to doctors.

Dharmawickrama said a favourable solution was not provided despite holding discussions with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance.
