COLOMBO (News 1st) - A special Dengue Prevention and Control Programme has been launched in Colombo and its suburbs.
This is due to the rapid spread of Dengue in the Western province.
The number of Dengue infections reported in Wellawatte, Pamankada, Narahenpita, Cinnamon Gardens, Fort and Grandpass has spiked, Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni said.
About 60 teams were deployed to control the situation.
"The public must seek medical attention if a fever lasts more than two days," he said.
Over 30,000 Dengue patients were reported so far in 2023.
50% of these cases were reported from the Western province.
