COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Met Department predicts that the prevailing showery condition will intensify in the next few days.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Eastern provinces and in the Kurunegala and Polonnaruwa districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most parts of the country after 1 pm.
In the meantime, the Department of Irrigation says that 39 reservoirs are overflowing due to heavy showers.
Director of Water Management at the Department of Irrigation Sudarshani Widanapathirana says that sluice gates will be opened to release 11,200 cubic feet of water per second to the Deduru Oya.
She says that flood warning were issued to low lying areas in Nikaweratiya, Rasnayakapura, Kobeigane, Ingiriya and Panduwasnuwara.
The Department of Irrigation adds that the flood warning issued to the Nilwala river is still effective.
Two people were injured after a mound of earth collpased in line rooms in an estate in Hali Ela.
Assistant Director of the Badulla District Disaster Management E.L.M. Udayakumara says they are currently receiving treatment at the Badulla Hospital.
25 people from five families have been directed to safe areas.
In the meantime, landslide warnings were extended to the Badulla, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Colombo, Hambantota, Kandy, Kurunegala, Matara and Kalutara districts.
