COLOMBO (News 1st); The prevailing pandemic situation has compelled judicial authorities to only take up essential cases in open court.
The Judicial Service Commission said cases will only be called up in open court after carefully considering the motions filed a party or counsel for the case to be called for.
The Judicial Service Commission stated that steps have been taken to adjourn the rest of the proceedings without summoning the parties and lawyers.
The commission noted that the judiciary will function with minimum staff at all times as a measure to combat the spread of COVID-19.
Accordingly, all court proceedings, including the Supreme Court, will be subject to restrictions.
