COLOMBO (News 1st) - The special investigation team from Bangladesh that arrived in the country is due to start interrogating the three suspects who were arrested with a large haul of heroin on two occasions.
The Police noted that the team had arrived in the country yesterday (January 16).
On the 31st of December 2018, two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Dehiwela with 278kg of Heroin. The heroin which was valued at over Rs. 3000 million was the largest haul of heroin discovered in 2018. The Police noted that the main suspect who aided this incident is now in hiding in Bangladesh.
Residences of the two arrested suspects and the main suspect still in hiding have already been searched by the Bangladesh police.
A second haul of heroin of 32kg was also discovered from Dehiwela recently. A Bangladesh national was arrested over this incident as well.
The team of Bangladesh police officers includes members of the committee appointed to investigate the use of drugs in SAARC countries.
The suspects are being interrogated today (January 17) based on permission from the Mount Lavinia Magistrates Court.
